For about twenty minutes each night, every Schoolfriend Club uses the school’s IT facilities to work on the web-based learning programme, Schoolfriend.com, with each child. Schoolfriend.com, developed in conjunction with education specialists, was first introduced in schools in 2000. It aims to make learning fun and show that it can mean more than structured lessons.
Children have improved their school results by up to 67% with regular use of Schoolfriend.com and schools receive individual reports on each child’s progress every term. An independent study by the Institute of Education confirmed that children using Schoolfriend.com show an improved level of literacy and numeracy beyond that which would be expected from daily attendance at school. In turn, the children’s newly found self-confidence also benefits their daily schoolwork.
Schoolfriend.com is an exciting, interactive bespoke learning system that helps improve ability in numeracy and literacy. This individualised programme covers Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 and concentrates on Maths, Spelling and Vocabulary, Reading, Punctuation and Grammar. All work is based on the National Curriculum and acts as a positive challenge to all children, at whatever level they may be.
Schoolfriend.com works like a private tutor on the computer: generating tailor-made exercises for each child, using the previously completed exercise as a diagnostic tool for the next exercise. Work is marked automatically, tutorials are downloaded for a step-by-step guide to problem solving, and Schoolfriend Club staff are fully trained on how to operate Schoolfriend.com with the children.
Schoolfriend Club children can also access Schoolfriend.com from home, completely free of charge, via www.schoolfriend.com
